Treat Age Spots and Brown Spots with Lumecca

Due to sun exposure and other environmental and biological factors, the growth of age spots and brown spots is common among many individuals. Most patients who are exposed to the sun for long periods of time will notice brown spots appear along their face, chest, hands, and other parts of their body.  The development of these spots is not inevitable, however, and their appearance can be minimized.

The treatment of age spots and brown spots with Lumecca has shown outstanding results. The breakthrough treatment uses an intense pulsed light to deliver up to three times more energy than traditional IPL treatments. One to three sessions may be all it takes to treat age spots and brown spots with Lumecca, versus 4 to 6 treatments when compared with the standard IPL.

FAQ about Brown Spots and Age Spots Treatment with Lumecca

What is Lumecca?
Lumecca uses a powerful intense pulsed light to treat pigmented lesions. It uses photothermolysis, which provides a photofacial through the delivery of a comfortable light treatment. Patients can notice significant improvements after just one use. Lumecca improves the appearance of:
  • Red or brown pigmentations
  • Freckles
  • Sun damage
What areas can be treated?

Lumecca can be used on all regions of the body and is most commonly used for areas that are regularly exposed to the sun, such as the face, neckline, legs, hands, and arms.

What steps must be taken before the procedure?

For one month before the procedure, avoid tanning or direct, excessive exposure to the sun.

What should I expect during and after Lumecca?

During treatment there will be a bright flash of light from the Lumecca that feels like a light elastic sensation. Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subside within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of pigmented spots; in the week afterward, the pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone. After treating vascular lesions, you may see the vein blanch and disappear or a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.

How many sessions are required?

An improved skin appearance can be noted after the first session. Multiple sessions provide even better results.  The treatment regimen depends on the severity of skin damage, skin type, type of treatment (vascular vs. sun damage), and energy settings.

How quickly will I see results?

Sun damage and skin complexion results can be seen a few days after the first session.  The skin will continue to look younger and more brilliant over time with most visible results after 1-2 weeks. Having multiple photofacial sessions will improve the final result. For vascular treatments such as facial telangiectasias, results can be seen in up to 2 weeks.

Are there any side effects?

Most patients do not experience any side effects, and any skin reaction usually resolves within a few hours.  Patients may find they are sensitive to sunlight immediately after treatment.  It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and tanning.
