Molluscum

Contagiosum

Molluscum Contagiosum Defined

Although it’s not discussed as often as some other skin conditions, molluscum contagiosum is a common skin disease that is contagious. The warts are caused by a virus that easily spreads from person to person.

People can get molluscum by sharing towels and clothing, as well as from infected gym equipment such as mats. Skin-to-skin contact also spreads the virus.

The main sign of molluscum is pink or flesh-colored bumps that can appear anywhere on the skin. Most people infected with molluscum get about 10 to 20 bumps on their skin, but individuals with a weakened immune system may have many more.

Because it is very contagious, medical treatment is necessary. Make an appointment to see one of our skin care physicians in Berkley, Novi, West Bloomfield, Commerce, or Farmington Hills. We can accept same-day appointments for urgent medical needs.
