Increasingly more research shows that reducing skin inflammation could help protect the body against certain types of diseases. A recent study, as reported on the Wall Street Journal, showed that, when it is attacked, the skin can produce enough of an inflammatory substance called cytokines to affect both the skin and body. Skin, the body’s largest organ, keeps moisture in and infections out. When it is in danger, a skin cell called a keratinocyte produces cytokines to repair itself.
